Vicky Cummings is the daughter half of Vicky & Vicky, Berkshire Hathaway’s mother and daughter Realtor team. Vicky has been in real estate for 12 years, and has more than 20 years’ sales experience. She grew up in a family of Realtors and has been interested in homes and property transformation since she was a child. Vicky is extremely knowledgeable about the Ventura County area, which she also calls home. She is actively involved in her community, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Project Understanding, a nonprofit organization that provides resources to local families and individuals in need.
Vicky is passionate about helping people, is highly experienced and well-connected in her field, and has an eye for design and detail. She prides herself on being able to see a home’s true value and possibilities and to translate her vision to her clients.
Vicky keeps up on all of the latest developments in the real estate industry, and continually hones her knowledge and expertise by regularly participating in classes and training.

Mary owns and is the sole practician of Las Cruces Hand Therapy in Ventura. She has owned businesses for seventeen years and has been affiliated with a number of organizations in the past, including Food Share (where she served with Virgil Nelson) and the Arthritis Foundation, and has served on the church council at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mary has spent several years establishing Las Cruces Hand Therapy and is ready to give back to the community.

Lisa is from the little town of Santa Paula and has lived in the City of Ventura for the past 10+ years now. Lisa is a Licensed Sales Producer for Allstate Insurance Company and currently works at the Jill Olivares Insurance Agency in Oak View. She is licensed in property casualty, health, life, commercial and also has her series 6, 63, and 26 license.
In addition to being passionate about educating her clients about their insurance needs, Lisa is very passionate about helping those in her community that may not have a means to help themselves. She currently serves as the Junior Regent at the Ventura Moose Lodge where fundraising for the community is flourishing. Lisa is also a board member for Project Understanding where she believes in their philosophy of a hand up and not a hand out. She is the current chairperson for the Ventura Marathon fund raising event and participate by running a half marathon (13.1 miles) all while raising money for Project Understanding and its many services.
Lisa was very instrumental in creating the first “purple room” at the City Center Transitional Living where a survivor of domestic violence and their family was able to find a safe place they can now call home. She is extremely honored to now be serving as an official board member for the City Center and looking forward to the opportunity of having more purple rooms for those affected by domestic violence.

For the past 15 years Janet Harrington has successfully managed her husband Michael’s dental practices, located in Ventura and Carpinteria. She has overseen all aspects of his practices, including: scheduling, accounting, patient case management and marketing. Her primary concern has been to ensure patients are properly cared for, and to maintain proper staffing and morale.
Throughout her career Jan has managed to raise three children, volunteering all 18 years of their childhood. Janet has volunteered in their classrooms, held board positions in the PTA, Girl Scouts, baseball, and soccer, to name a few. Janet has been extremely active with Carpinteria Rotary, Rotaract and the Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce over the past eight years. Just recently she became involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Janet and her husband are members of Bible Fellowship Church, where she has devoted most of her time and energy to missionaries serving abroad. She has also enjoyed hosting Bible studies and singing in the choir. In her spare time Janet paints surf art, and enjoys an array of sports-paddle boarding, swimming, snorkeling, mountain biking and hiking. She is very grateful for her full and blessed life, and wants to serve the community that she has lived in for most of her life. She is excited to be a part of Project Understanding and wants to make an impact on the community that she loves.

Matt LaVere is a second-generation Venturan. After working in Washington, D.C., in the White House and on Capitol Hill as a legislative advisor, Mr. LaVere returned home to Ventura following his graduation from Pepperdine University School of Law.
Mr. LaVere specializes in business, real estate and labor/employment law. He also acts as outside general counsel for numerous companies throughout the Tri-county region.
Mr. LaVere has a long history with Project Understanding, having volunteered for Project throughout his childhood. He credits his parents for instilling in him a strong devotion to community service. Mr. LaVere is also a board member of the Downtown Ventura Rotary Club and the Ventura College Foundation. He resides with his wife Alicia and daughter Lucia in Ventura, and attends Ventura Missionary Church.

Patricia Wade Gooch
Family Nurse Practitioner
Patricia was born and raised in Danville, Virginia. She entered the medical profession and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1969. The military brought her and her husband to California in 1970. Their two sons were born and raised in the area and she has been living in Ventura since 1978. Her ultimate goal was to become a nurse practitioner even before most people understood what that meant as a profession. In 1985 she graduated from the University of California at Davis as a Family Nurse Practitioner and continued to work in that capacity until her retirement from Primary Medical Group in July 2016.
Patricia is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ventura where she serves on the church council, endowment board, missions committee and is chairperson of the Happy Ventures Preschool.
After retirement she said she wanted to get out into the community and find ways to serve and to get to know other people with the same interest. “I feel that Project Understanding found me at just the perfect moment in time.” She is very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of an organization that gives not only a hand out, but also a hand up to so many in need.

Project provides shelter, food and education to the less fortunate in our community. We believe in offering a hand up, not a hand out and I couldn’t agree more. Every life matters and I believe that it is God’s will that we help one another.

RoseAnn Hill is a past board president, former chair of the Resource Development Committee and one of the co-founders of Project’s annual Starlight Supper Club. She is the senior member and broker-associate with Fred Evan’s team at RE/MAX Gold Coast Realtors, this year celebrating her 21st year in real estate. RoseAnn assists sellers and buyers throughout west Ventura County, and has a special love for helping senior clients. She also serves as Club Service Director for Ventura’s Downtown Rotary Club and is an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. RoseAnn believes that “service is why we are here.”
Frank is retired from a 35-year career in the oil industry. During his career and after his retirement, he has been associated with organizations that supported adult literacy, shelters for abused women, and outreach for the homeless, families in need, and tutoring for children. Frank and his wife, Dianne, moved to Ventura in 2007 to be near children and grandchildren. He is active in church activities at Ventura’s Trinity Lutheran Church. He embraces the policy of “a hand up, not a hand out” and is looking forward to serving the community through his participation on Project Understanding’s board.
Scott and his wife Linda became Ventura residents in 2011, selecting Ventura in large part due to the sense of community they felt here.
Educated as a chemist, his career has spanned management positions in Sales, Marketing, Operations, Business Development and Product Development. Scott retired from a career in the chemical and health care industries in 2015 in order to pursue a faith-driven commitment to help others.
Since joining the Ventura community, he has become active as a member of Church of the Foothills, serving as Chairman of the Outreach and Benevolence Board. He volunteers to serve others at One-Stop, Family to Family and Food Share, and his family has established post-secondary education scholarships in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. He became a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a foster child in 2016.
Enjoying a love for music, Scott sings in his church choir, and has performed several seasons with the Gold Coast Community Chorus.
Scott is father to two daughters and has one grandson.
